Description

THIS SESSION WILL BE RECORDED

The title of this workshop is “Modifying Knitting Patterns – Making Patterns Personal to You.” To me, this has been something that has been second nature to me… but as a tech editor, this is one of my most frequently asked questions. Modifying knitting patterns is a completely natural thing to do and corresponds well with the meaning behind knitting: expressing our creativity by making items that 100% unique and personal to us. This is something that as knitting has been commercialized, we have forgotten. The objective of this class is to have knitters walk away with a new understanding of patterns and knitting but also feel equipped to take on the challenge of making items that are personal and unique to them but also the best fitting clothing items in their wardrobe. Throughout this workshop, we will walk through many different modifications that are necessary for each knitting pattern (but people tend to ignore) and others that will allow the knitter to make something that fits them perfectly.

Supplies

  • Yarn for swatching
  • Notebook and calculator
  • Optional: Pattern you would like to modify or customize.

Homework: Find a pattern that you would like to modify or customize. This could be a lot of things but some examples are adding short rows, transposing from top-down to bottom-up, or even substituting stitches used!
