For most of human history, our ancestors have relied on nature to heal their families and bring color and beauty to their lives. In this class, we will talk about the relationship between color and medicine. Come join us to learn the traditions and techniques of working with natural dyes. Learn how to harness the beautiful color palette of nature using natural dyes, foraged materials and even kitchen scraps to create deep and lasting colors on natural fibers. This class is all you need to know about natural dyeing to have the confidence to get out your fiber and start experimenting. We will talk about how to connect with nature and find both color and medicine in the gardens and forests in our surroundings. I’ll explain my take on sustainable harvesting and how to feel more comfortable in plant identification. You’ll learn everything you need to know about sourcing and preparing your fiber, how to extract the color from your dye material, and how to modify those colors. You will learn all about traditionally used dye plants and about how to experiment with the abundant weeds in your area. You might be surprised to find out that those plants you thought were a nuisance are actually a source of beautiful color and probably even medicine! I’ll give you step by step recipes and instructions. There will be tips and tricks to help you create beautiful colors right in your very own kitchen Bring your curiosity and questions!
