Description

Let nature flow through every stitch

As we enter into the spring and summer months here in the Northern hemisphere, everything is blooming and blossoming. What a great reason to spend some time out in nature taking in the fresh air and looking for some plants to bring home to your dye pot. (Obviously it is highly recommended to bring your project bags on these adventures in case there’s a nice view for some fiber crafting!)

We'd would like to spark your interest in reweaving the connection between our fiber art and the beauty of nature. Nicole from Thymeweaver will share about the magical world of plants and natural dyes, giving a demonstration about the natural dye process and adding in some information from her studies of herbalism. "I believe that dyeing our natural fibers with plants can actually imbue the final products with healing properties. The joy you can get from harvesting plants in your own backyard and creating your own color on your fiber that you will then knit, spin, weave, or crochet into a final piece is beyond words."

We'll cover:

  • history of natural dyes
  • ways of dyeing different fibers
  • the use of mordants and preparation for dyeing
  • multitude of plants that give us color from foraged materials to just kitchen scraps
  • demonstration of the dyeing process
  • samples of colors that can be achieved. Natural dyes really can give you bright, vibrant, colors!
  • a conversation about how the colors of nature can bring so much joy to the knitting process
  • Q&A session so bring your questions and natural dye experiments to share!
